In the Course Reader (that all staff receive post-training), useful clinical reference material is included in all three Sections:
- Section One: Clinical issues and survivor perspectives
- Section Two: Information relating to the one day child sexual abuse course.
- Section Three: Working with adults with learning disabilities.
If any clinicians are considering establishing survivor groups, they may be interested in consulting the New Horizons framework for psycho-educational survivors groups developed by Heather Morfett and Lorna Coulson, Sexual Abuse Team, Plymouth NHS Trust.
The distinct advantage of psycho-educational groups is that survivors do not recount specific details of their own abuse within the group sessions and therefore their engagement in this form of therapy will not prejudice their evidence in the prosecution of their abuser(s) either:
- in a case where a survivor is awaiting the trial date, or
- in the event that a survivor may decide to report their historical abuse to the Police at any point in the future and there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial.
