Delegate participation was enhanced with the use of instant interactive voting and feedback devices, which also allowed delegates to share contact details, arrange meetings during the day. The handsets also allowed delegates to send questions to speakers and workshop facilitators.
The afternoon also included a fascinating and candid one to one interview between Hári Sewell (Race Equality Programme Lead) and Frank Bruno MBE. This session was made possible and recorded by Hári Sewell Consultancy Ltd. Details of the dvd of this interview appear in the panels on the right of this page
Context of the Day
While the Delivering Race Equality programme and the National Service Framework for mental health draw to a close, a new era of mental health services provides a unique opportunity to build on progress. This involves design, provision and commissioning of high quality care and support to a diverse population, based on an understanding of individual and community needs.
The conference celebrated achievements to date and identified where progress still needs to be made. Seeking to identify key learning common across equality strands that help to form the cornerstone of the good mental health service provision. The conference stimulated debate, in identifying solutions and profile evidence around key issues:
- How could an integrated equalities agenda bring about access to high quality care for all, while addressing the specific needs of individuals from diverse backgrounds?
- How can we realise the ambitious vision of equality and justice for all?
- How can we address the related inequalities in physical health outcomes for people with poor mental health?
- What impact could the new Equality Bill have on mental health services and the public service and society as a whole?
