Mental Health Legislation Programme
NIMHE were commissioned by the Department of Health to support the implementation of the Mental Health Act 2007.

We are committed to ensuring that service
users are given good quality, easily accessible and understandable
information about mental health law and are involved as an integral
part of this programme. It is our belief that in order to provide the
opportunity to influence the programme during the course of the
implementation of new legislation, service users who provide credible
and constructive inputs to the programme are those with personal
experience of detention under the Mental Health Act 1983.
Essential:
- Personal experience of detention under the Mental Health Act 1983 within the last 3 years
- Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the impact of mental health legislation upon ethnic minorities
- Willingness to work as part of a National multi disciplinary implementation group.
- Will recognise the validity of other people's values, knowledge and experience.
- Appreciate the ultimate aim of the programme which is to support successful implementation of the Mental Health Act 2007.
