Early Intervention in Psychosis Programme

Programme Start Date: 1st September 2004
Programme Planned end Date: 31st March 2010
Overall aim of the Programme:
A national EI programme facilitated those functions which can only be achieved at the national level or which may be best achieved through national co- ordination of regional activity

These functions include:

  1. Provide a national steer, identity, leadership and vision
  2. Carry out functions that may be best done at a national level
  3. To encourage collaborations between regions

Programme Overview

Established in 2004, the programme has provided development support for EI policy service implementation through:

  • Nationally coordinated and regionally delivered work programme which aims to continuously integrate the 3 essential vectors of change- policy, research and practice development
  • Value driven programme - articulated by the Early Psychosis Declaration endorsed by the WHO (2004); the experiences of young service users and their families are demonstrably at the heart of the work of the programme
  • Credibility: programme leas are fully engaged and ‘visible' to the field
  • Leadership: as leads we have been involved with EI for 12 years, for the ‘field' this provides authenticity which is respected locally, nationally and internationally together with a corresponding range of effective networks
  • Provide topic expertise: providing advice vie regional EI leads to the local enquiries; Knowledge brokering (two way) rapidly and effectively connecting ‘field' with ‘centre'
  • Established programme products: resource tools, factsheets, guidance, discussion papers, publications
  • UK EI as International field leader
