The Mental Capacity Act which was passed in 2005, provides a legal framework to empower vulnerable people to make decisions for themselves, or if they are found to lack capacity, to ensure decisions taken on their behalf are done in their best interests.
This one day Healthcare Events conference provides an important update on the Act since it was passed and how well it has integrated into day to day practice. Data published by the Mental Health Foundation in June has revealed that over half of health and social care professionals are failing to comply with the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 when conducting assessments of mental capacity.
