We are pleased to announce that the Delivering Race Equality Programme, part of the National Mental Health Development Unit (NMHDU) and the Department of Health are collaborating with the LankellyChase Foundation to develop financial support for BME and Mental Health projects.
The LankellyChase Foundation supports a range of social justice programmes and has a key priority to support the black voluntary sector and BME groups. Its “Free And Quiet Minds” programme specifically focuses on mental health needs in BME communities and secure psychiatric care. The Foundation recognises that people from BME groups may not have had access through the NHS to the sort of treatment which they might choose for themselves.
The criteria is addressed in the attached guidance document but to summarise, organisations applying must be:
• A Registered Charity, Industrial Provident Society, Community Interest Company, Exempt Charity (e.g churches)
• Able to demonstrate user involvement
• Groups which provide services to those from BME background who are experiencing or recovering from mental illness and to those who care for people with Mental illness. The Foundation will give preference to those charities where the majority of the trustees are from a BME background and the charity is based outside of London.
The Foundation will not make grants to replace funds withdrawn from the statutory services or to replace time expired grants from the national lottery board. Please see page 2 of the guidance document for full details of areas which are not supported.
Through this collaboration, the Foundation proposes project support for up to 10 BME and Mental Health groups, over the next 12 months. The funding can be agreed for up to 3 years. In order to apply please go to the Foundation website, www.lankellychase.org.uk, where you can read the guidelines and complete the application form which should be sent to the LankellyChase Foundation. A maximum of 2 applications will be chosen for the agenda for each of the LCF’s remaining 5 grants meetings in 2009-10 (see below for the dates). Those applications which have been chosen, will be visited by a representative from the LCF before the meeting and the LCF will write to you after the meeting with the Trustees’ decision.
To ensure there is more than one opportunity to apply, there are 5 application deadlines throughout this year and up to 2 applications will be supported at each point.
